I am so saddened to report that Fiona has had to be euthanized. She was suffering from two terminal diseases - Adrenal Disease and Insulinoma (tumours on the pancreas) and she succumbed to Insulinoma, despite various treatments. She had stopped eating in early June and I was force-feeding, along with treating her with several different medicines. However, it was becoming increasingly obvious that she was in pain, and on June 21, 2007 I decided it was time to end her suffering.
I will miss her dearly as she was such a sweet-natured little ferret, who really hadn't had much of a life. She had been in a cage in a shelter for at least a year before I took her in November, 2006. And before that, who knows? What I do know is that she had no idea about being cuddled nor shown any affection. She was gradually coming around, and I had hoped that she could enjoy the freedom first in my house, and then accompanying me on my adventure.
But it was not to be. She now rests on my farm under a very large flat rock, with the following inscription:
To Fiona, 200? to June 21, 2007. All you needed was kindness. R.I.P.
